Lafleur acquitted of contradictory testimony
Hockey Hall of Famer Guy Lafleur was acquitted by the Quebec Court of Appeal on Tuesday of giving contradictory testimony at his son's bail hearing.
The three-judge panel ruled the trial judge erred when he decided Lafleur knew his son Mark was supposed to remain at his parents' home when he was away from the rehabilitation center where he resided.
Lafleur was convicted in May 2009 and given a one-year suspended sentence, fined $100 and ordered to donate $10,000 to charity.
It wasn't immediately known whether the prosecution would seek appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Louis Belleau, Lafleur's lawyer, said his client was happy about the decision. Lafleur had no immediate comment.
Lafleur's problems started after he told the court in September 2007 that his son always respected his court-ordered curfew and never consumed drugs and alcohol on his watch. At the time,Wholesale ED HARDY he had agreed to supervise his son and ensure he abided by court orders.
But during another court hearing a month later, he admitted that he drove his son to a hotel for an intimate encounter with his 16-year-old girlfriend on two occasions.

Fighters sent after violation of Air Force 1 space
A passenger aboard a float plane that violated the airspace around Air Force One while President Obama was in town Monday was stunned to find out about the fuss that resulted, saying the incursion wasn't intentional.

Joseph said she and Daily didn't know anything was wrong until they landed and were told they had to talk to the Secret Service. She also said she didn't hear the sonic booms.

Joseph said she and Daily were allowed to leave after being interviewed by the Secret Service and haven't heard anything yet about possible sanctions.

Orioles reach late deal with 1st-rounder Machado

Texas Executes Gang Leader for Murder of 2 Girls
Texas on Tuesday executed the leader of a former gang of Houston teenagers who raped and murdered two young girls who were walking home from a neighborhood party 17 years ago.

President Karzai Orders Foreign Security Out
Afghan President Hamid Karzai has issued a law banning private security firms, including the company formerly known as Blackwater, from operating in the country. In a potentially massive security upheaval, these companies currently working in Afghanistan now have four months to disband.

"We've received complaints that these security forces, some of them, not all of them, have been involved in robbery, kidnapping and misusing their authority and power," Karzai's deputy spokesman, Hamed Elmi told ABC News.
As many as 40,000 people work for private security firms in Afghanistan. The decree stipulates that they will need to start hiring local people, many of them from the Afghan police force, to provide security in the future.

The decree is designed to facilitate the complete handover of security to Afghan governmental control. President Karzai, who spoke about the issue during the Kabul conference in July, wants the government to be more involved in internal security. The private firms now operate without consulting with the government.
The government fears that these private security companies are increasingly becoming more like private militias with no one enforcing any control over them.
There are 52 private security companies registered with the Afghan government. Among the U.S. companies impacted by the order is the contractor formerly known as Blackwater. In February, U.S. Senate investigators said the company hired violent drug users to help train the Afghan army and declared "sidearms for everyone" -- even though employees weren't authorized to carry weapons. The allegations came as part of an investigation into the 2009 shooting deaths of two Afghan civilians by employees of the company, now known as Xe.
The company also came under criticism for its operations in Iraq. In September 2007, Blackwater guards were involved in a gun battle in downtown Baghdad that resulted in 17 people killed.

America doesn't need to worry about the China economy leaving the U.S. in the dust anytime soon, economists say.
"We don't have to look over our shoulder at all," says Jay Bryson, international economist at Wells Fargo Economics in Charlotte, N.C. "They probably will not surpass us for 20 years under current growth rates. But even when they do, they won't be anywhere close to our standard of living."

The numbers illustrate the vast gulf. The Chinese economy, the International Monetary Fund estimates, will total about $5.4 trillion this year, while the U.S. one will be about $14.8 trillion -- almost three times the size of the Chinese economy. To catch the U.S., China will have to grow extremely fast while the U.S. economy dawdles.
The U.S. economy will grow by 3.8 percent this year, while the Chinese economy grows by 9.3 percent, the IMF estimates.
For China to catch the U.S. in 10 years, its economy would have to grow at more than 12 percent per annum, for example, while the U.S. grows at 2 percent, Bryson estimates. However, most economists say, it is unlikely that China will have sustained growth that high and the U.S. will be that low.
"It would be safe to say they will catch us sometime in the next generation," Bryson says.

Suit Claims Celebrity Haunt Used Facebook, MySpace to Weed Out Minorities
The owner of a bowling alley and nightclub popular with Manhattan's trendy crowd allegedly used networking sites Facebook and MySpace to screen out minorities and others he felt weren't desirable for his club, according to a lawsuit filed by former employees.

Five ex-employees of Bowlmor Lanes in Manhattan's Union Square sued owner Tom Shannon claiming they were dismissed because of discrimination that ranged from their race, their gender, or the fact that one was pregnant as well as a minority.
In depositions included in their suit, the one-time Bowlmor workers detailed how Shannon allegedly also discriminated against certain people who would be allowed into the Carnival Night Club above the bowling lanes, where celebrities ranging from swimmer Michael Phelps to Paris Hilton are known to be photographed.
According to the lawsuit filed in July, Shannon was "very upset at the 'diversity' in his club and wanted to make more changes to ensure that the 'diversity' in the club was halted."
In the lawsuit obtained by ABC News, Alice Rosenaur, Christopher Falletta, Denish Sheomber, Shavone Boston and Troy Sacco state that Shannon " instructed [them] to 'obtain patrons' information and then search them in social networking sites to see how they looked, dressed, or where they lived, all in an effort to deny those from certain racial groups.'"

The alleged screening began in February after a series of fights that needing police assistance were reported at the club, according to the suit.
Falletta's deposition stated that after the violent incidents, he and others met with senior level management to discuss ways of excluding certain people from their events. Falletta noted that a dress code was immediately enacted to "specifically weed out certain racial groups under the guise of selectively not allowing admittance to guests who wore baseball caps, sports jerseys, oversized jeans or Timberland boots."
Falletta also stated that he immediately voiced his opposition once the group discussed the possibility of forming a team of specialized consultants for their future events to "find patrons on social networking internet site such as Facebook and MySpace and weed out patrons who were deemed racially problematic such as African Americans, Asians and Latinos."
Members of the specialzed team were assigned to sift through the Facebook "event groups" that were formed, along with vetting the individuals inquiring about private parties, before confirming their events, Faletta alleged.

The deposition by Shavone Boston, who is black, states that Falletta was told by Shannon after she was hired that Boston "might not fit in too well" and that he "did not want African Americans in his business," according to the lawsuit.
Alice Rosenaur claimed in court papers that two weeks after she began working at Bowlmor, she learned she was pregnant and immediately informed her surpervisors. While on jury duty about two months later, Rosenaur received notice that she was going to be fired because of her poor sales records, the claimed in the deposition. Rosenaur stated that she surpassed her sales quota the month prior and that she was being let go because she was allegedly pregnant and was of Hispanic and Mexican descent.
Shannon's attorney, Mercedes Colwin could not be reached for comment.
